الاسلام يعني الخضوع
Islam means 'Submission.' Aslam means 'submitted.' When a soldier surrenders to the other army, the word used is 'Aslam.' It is a giving of all available free will (i.e. complete surrender or submission). This is exactly what Muhammad did to all that he saw as enemies. The word 'Aslam' is also used to tell that someone became a Muslim (i.e. believe that Islam is the religion for him). This is done through reciting "The Shahada" - testifying that there is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is Allah's Prophet (the messenger of Allah).
