Miles "Tails" Prower ( マ イ ル ス "テ イ ル ス" パ ウ ア ー, Mairusu "Teirusu" Pauā ?) Is a character in the Sonic The Hedgehog series and other Sega series . Like many characters in the series, Tails was based on a real animal. Tails is a young fox with yellowish-orange fur with white, blue eyes and two hairy and voluminous tails, being the main ally and best friend of the protagonist Sonic . His baptismal name is Miles Prower, a joke made with the words Miles Per Hour (MPH), Tails being just a nickname in reference to its two tails that allow it to fly. Tails is the third most famous character among today's fans, second only to Shadow and Sonic , according to an official SEGA poll .
