CNPS - Yerba Buena Chapter
Description
San Francisco ecology is an intricate web of plants, insects, and birds; pollinators, predators and prey. Plant and wildlife evolved together over thousands of years and depend on each other for their survival and the survival of the system. Native plants are the foundation of this web, providing food and shelter for all organisms and wildlife higher up the chain. But not just any plant will do; the plants must be the ones that evolved with the insects, contain the chemicals and properties that each specific insect requires. Introducing exotics disrupts that food web. So plant natives and support our biodiversity and our climate resilient plant communities that feed our wildlife.
The California Native Plant Society - Yerba Buena (San Francisco) chapter advocates for local native plants to feed wildlife and our ecosystem.
