Description
With 1,856 kmĀ², the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in the entire Alpine region and one of the largest protected areas in Central Europe. In the Hohe Tauern National Park, all important alpine ecosystems are well preserved and undisturbed. More than a third of all plant species found in Austria occur in the National Park. In the case of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians it is around 50%. The National Park now also offers a secure habitat for animals that were extinct in almost all of Europe at the beginning of the 19th century.
